As UX Designer, I thought that using the Design Thinking process was an interesting methodology to understand the use of bikes in France, from the research phase to the testing phase.
The world of bicycle enthusiastics is full of associations, and they are doing regularly studies on different topics. The FUB, the « Fédération française des Usagers de la Bicyclette » (in english the French Federation of Bicycle users ») wanted to study the relationship between French people and bicycles. It was an interesting first approach to see how the French use bicycles, and the difficulties they are encountering.
The survey OpinionWay for the FUB was realized on a cross section of 1 040 person, based on 18 year old and older French population, on January 2022. This study reveals some important elements :
Riding a bicycle has a positive image. People think that it contributes to welfare and helps to protect the environment.
94% of the French population claim that they know how to ride a bicycle, but a lot of them confess a lack of confidence to do it.
79% of the French population wish to hear more about bicycle transportation in political programmes.
